The Cincinnati Boychoir, founded in 1965 under the auspices of Cincinnati Public Schools, provides musical education through its vocal training and ensemble experience for young boys.

The Boychoir, as part of its outreach program, in late 2010 started a choir at Evanston Academy in conjunction with FamiliesFORWARD’s After-School Program. The choir program also was established at Bond Hill Academy in late 2011.

The Boychoir has a three-tiered program:

The Tour Choir, a premier ensemble, performs 30 to 40 times each year in addition to a weeklong tour. Boys might be called upon to perform in the choir or as soloists with local organizations such as the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati May Festival and the Cincinnati Opera. A boy can remain in the Tour Choir until his voice changes.

At that point, the young men can participate in the Men’s Glee Club ensemble for those with changed or changing voices. The Men’s Glee Club allows them to find their voice in a constructive, musically demanding setting.

The Boychoir is led by Jason Alexander Holmes, who started in 2019 as artistic director.
