Kappa Alpha awards grant to Withrow grad

The Cincinnati Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity awarded a Withrow University High School graduating senior with a 2016 Fred Heisel Jr. Grant-in-Aid Award.

Gerald Ndayishimiye, son of Venancia Ngendakumana and Salvator Mukurarinda, received a $1,000 scholarship. He was among 15 grant recipients in Greater Cincinnati.

Ndayishimiye played soccer for four years at Withrow and also performed original songs at the Withrow International Dinner all four years. He was on the A/B Honor Roll from sixth grade through 12th grade.

Ndayishimiye plans to attend University of Cincinnati in the fall and would like to study electronic media (videography and photography).

FamiliesFORWARD staff members assisted seven Withrow seniors in applying for the Kappa Alpha scholarships. Each student wrote an essay, then the seven-member Scholarship Committee of the Kappa Alpha alumni chapter reviewed the applications and conducted interviews with applicants before selecting the winners.

A total of 19 from Withrow have received the awards in the past five years. Kappa Alpha has awarded 119 scholarships, beginning in 2002.
