5 Withrow grads receive Kappa Alpha grants

Five Withrow University High School graduating seniors have received 2014 Fred Heisel Jr. Grant-in-Aid Awards from the Cincinnati Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

Each student received a $1,000 scholarship during a banquet May 31. They were among 12 grant recipients.

Niyubahwe Dieudonne, son of Nthihambara Eraste and Minani Domitire, will attend UC Blue Ash College, majoring in nursing. He was ranked No. 2 in his class, achieving a grade-point average of 3.5. Dieudonne was involved in the school’s Luxottica mentoring program, National Honor Society and soccer.

Pape Diop, son of Cheikh Diop and Adama Ndiaye, plans to major in sports administration at University of Cincinnati. He ranked sixth in his class with a 3.3 grade-point average. He was involved in National Honor Society and soccer at Withrow.

Francisco Hughes, son of Autumn Williams, will attend St. Louis University in the fall, majoring in meteorology. He achieved a 3.5 grade-point average and ranked 15th in his class. Hughes was involved in Outdoor Venture Crew and the National Honor Society, and helped plant a garden at Keystone Park.

Brandin Johnson, son of Keric and Victoria Johnson, plans to attend Wilmington College, majoring in sports medicine. He finished with a 3.3 grade-point average and ranked 25th in his class. Johnson was a member of the Sports Medicine Club, cheerleading squad, senior council and dance team at Withrow.

Percy Roberts, son of Percy III and Tosha Roberts, will major in economics at Ohio Wesleyan University. He finished ninth in his class with a grade-point average of 3.6. He was a member of the football and bowling teams at Withrow, as well as Outdoor Venture Crew.

FamiliesFORWARD staff members assisted seven Withrow seniors in applying for the Kappa Alpha scholarships. Each student wrote an essay, then a committee of Kappa Alpha alumni chapter members reviewed the applications and conducted interviews with applicants before selecting the winners.
