4 Withrow graduates receive Kappa Alpha Psi scholarships

Four graduating Withrow University High School students have received 2013 Fred Heisel Jr. Grant-in-Aid Awards.

Marshall and Justice Mullins, who both will attend Central State University, Brandon Craig (Kentucky State University) and Brandon Kelly (University of Findlay) each received the $1,000 scholarships from the Cincinnati Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity during a banquet May 30. They were among 12 grant recipients.

Justice and Marshall Mullins are sons of Reginald Mullins. Marshall achieved a 3.9 grade-point average and was Withrow’s valedictorian this year. Justice ranked third in the class with a grade-point average of 3.5.

Marshall was a National Honor Society member and was in the marching band for four years. He plans to study computer science in college. Justice played in the marching band for four years and made the A & B Honor Roll throughout high school. He plans to study graphic design.

Kelly, son of Leander Kelly and Shelleane R. Chesse, was Withrow’s salutatorian this year, with a 3.9 grade-point average. He played football at Withrow for four years and baseball for two years, volunteered to clean streets, and mowed lawns and raked lawns for senior citizens. He plans to study pharmacy in college.

Craig, son of Arthur and Donna Craig, achieved a 3.0 grade-point average and ranked No. 27 in his class. He was a member of the Withrow Choir, 11th-grade Student Council, Debate Team, Academic Quiz Team (team leader in 2012-13, when the team won the league championship) and Science Club. FamiliesFORWARD staff members assisted 10 Withrow seniors in applying for the scholarships. Each student wrote an essay, then a committee of Kappa Alpha alumni chapter members reviewed the applications and conducted interviews with applicants before selecting the winners.
