Bellamy, Knott win Kappa Alpha Psi scholarships

Shakee Bellamy and Travis Knott, Withrow University High School graduating seniors in 2012, each received a Fred Heisel Jr. Grant-in-Aid Award on May 24.

The scholarships were awarded by the Cincinnati Alumni Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

Travis (left) is the son of Arthur Knott and Karen Sims. He ranked fourth in his graduating class of 177 with a 3.8 grade-point average. His high school activities included 12th-grade wrestling team (captain), 9th-grade class representative, 8th-grade president of Student Council, Big Brother Little Brother member and participant in M.O.R.E.: Men Organized, Respectful and Educated programs. He also volunteered with the Cincinnati Recreation Commission in Madisonville, working the front desk and assisting in the after-school day-care program.

Travis plans to attend Central State University in the fall of 2012 and major in business.

Shakee (right) is the son of Tyrone Walker and Doris Bellamy. As a senior, he was second-team all-district and first-team all-Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference as a defensive back with the Withrow football team. He graduated with a 2.9 GPA.

Shakee enjoys volunteering at Bubbles-N-Books, where he helps children. He now plans to attend Bowling Green State University in the fall of 2012 and pursue a degree in journalism.

Travis and Shakee were among just seven students in Greater Cincinnati to receive the one-time, $1,000 scholarships. FamiliesFORWARD staff members assisted the seniors in applying for the scholarships. A committee of Kappa Alpha alumni chapter members reviewed the applications and conducted interviews with all applicants before selecting the winners.
